"I Dream of an Indian Garden"
Large Silk Scarf

This scarf always transports me, at least for a moment, to the India of legend... The India painted in minatures... Moghul India. Or Buddha's India.

This gorgeous art piece is as light as, well, the finest silk. It depicts a maharajah's garden, alive with exotic beasts and lush tropical flora. To one side, a Mughul palace (or perhaps the Taj Mahal) can be seen in the near distance, through the flowering and fruiting trees. On the other side is a meditation pavilion. The border is surrounded by black and white line drawings of birds.

This silk is so fine, this beauty practically floats on air.
That said, there is a bit of damage at the edges, where the stitches of the rolled edge pulled at the gossamer fabric.
It's been like that for a decades and it never really bothered me because I love this scarf so much.

Alas, I know not the artist. nor the maker. Nothing on the scarf, itself. I do know it's old -- at least from the 60s.The original owner was a meticulous dresser, even into her 80s, and she had excellent taste in scarves. She only wore the best. I am guessing she bought it on one of her trips abroad -- Paris? Italy? Hong Kong? Perhaps even India.

BUT I live in the country now and don't get fancied up much anymore. (EVER, actually.) I'd love for this to grace the neck of someone who can be transported each time she wears it,
as I have been.
